Rimrock Trails provides professional counseling services for children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families who are struggling with various life challenges related to mental health and substance use problems. Individuals typically see their therapist weekly or biweekly in one of our three office locations. Telehealth options (virtual video counseling visits) are also available for all Central Oregon residents. Telehealth is a convenient option for those who prefer it or for those who are unable to come into the office.

We believe people heal in the context of healthy relationships and human connection. Therefore, we make every effort to match our client's individual needs with the most appropriate therapist to best ensure a positive counseling experience. We strive to convey a genuine sense of hope for our clients in a safe, and non-judgmental atmosphere where they feel supported and at ease.

We value a philosophical approach where services are delivered in a way that is respectful of, and responsive to, the preferences, needs, and values of the individuals we serve. In that regard, treatment plans are developed collaboratively with each individual to emphasize their strengths, goals, purpose and desired outcome.

What is Dual Diagnosis?

When mental illness and substance use co-occur the condition is called a dual diagnosis.

Co-occurring mental illness and substance use are not uncommon. In fact, statistics affirm that co-occurring disorders are the rule rather than the exception. The National Institute of Health estimates that up to 60 percent of individuals with a substance use disorder also suffer from mental illness.

Co-occurring conditions have historically been treated as two separate illnesses, leaving one to be treated subsequent to another. Research studies show that dual diagnosis treatment is most effective as opposed to sequential or simultaneous treatment.  When mental illness and substance abuse are treated at the same time, the chances of a successful outcome are greatly increased. Rimrock Trails offers a range of comprehensive dual diagnosis treatment programs designed to address the unique needs of each individual in our care.

Our specialized outpatient substance use treatment services target the needs of the dually diagnosed individual by:

  • Providing cross-trained therapists experienced in both substance use and mental health treatment

  • Comprehensive screening and assessment for the presence of substance use and mental health disorders

  • Creating a supportive environment that aligns with the goals of the individual and family

  • Motivating, empowering, supporting, and educating family members

In coordination with therapy at Rimrock Trails, support services are also available in community settings. Our Certified Peer Support Specialists provide support to individuals and families; together, they can informally discuss issues, increase coping skills, identify strengths and barriers to recovery.
